The implementation was part of network and IT operations optimization project for one of the largest sugar manufacturer in this part of Europe.

Specifically, the paradigm called data, control and management plane dissagregation and network automation. Here, you can read about paradigms and characteristics that the SDN idea brings. Dissagregation approach simplifies the process of building & maintaining something called network overlay. Overlay is an abstraction that SDWAN idea relies on (you will read more on dissagregation and overlay concepts below).

2018 was a very interesting year for us and technology. We introduced our IoT product “Souly”. 5G entered the normative work in standardization and released the first “version” of 5G. Wi-Fi introduced new security schemes and changed nomenclature. The networking world shifted towards SDN/SD-WAN solutions.

This post is dedicated to provide an overview of the Viptela policies. We go into the the details of the various kinds of policies and the overall policy architecture. In our earlier post we had focused on Viptela concept, Viptela SD-WAN components and how to authenticate the vEdges to Viptela cloud and setup basic connectivity between sites.

This article is the first part in the series about SD-WAN technology where we learn step by step what exactly Software Defined WAN (SD-WAN) is, how to build and use it, how and why using this concept could be beneficial for enterprises or even service providers and how to transform the current enterprise WAN to a SD-WAN solution. We are going to start with looking closely at Cisco Viptela product, however later on, we will describe other SD-WAN platforms in a similar manner.
