    5 Most Popular Grandmetric Technology Articles From 2019

    From our perspective, tech trends and the technological focus of the year 2019 was on the following:

    • Wi-Fi 6 was brought to life and the new naming convention was proposed by the Wi-Fi alliance.
    • Elastic Stack: We started to use Elastic Stack extensively for different monitoring and analytics purpose for infrastructure, IoT system and security aspects.
    • 5G: The first 5G version was standardized, along with the first implementations of 5G networks, which brought more discussions on the 5G health issues.
    • SD-WAN: We designed and implemented the first SD-WAN in Poland.

    As always, we’ve been bringing the tech trends to the readers of our blog, by continuing to write on certain topics (like 5G, SD-WAN, Wi-Fi networking). As a summary from 2019, we have compiled here a list of the 5 most popular posts from our website:

    1. Is this anything to worry about? 5G health issues explained
      This post outlines the important topic of health issues playing a strong role in the current discussions present around the world regarding the new mobile technology. Dr Kurt Behnke discusses the impact of electromagnetic radiation from the base station and mobile phone perspective.
    2. 5G health issues explained: What’s wrong with the “studies”?
      This article serves as the second part of the “5G health issues” going deeper into the topic elaborating on mobile phone radiation, SAR values and heating effects and explaining why some “studies” present in the media currently may be misguiding.
    3. 3GPP Release-17: Enhancing 5G
      This post elaborates on the recent advancements from 3GPP which goes into the evolution of 5G under the Rel-17 discussing selected items from RAN and SA working groups.
    4. Grandmetric to deliver first SD-WAN implementation in Poland
      This post delivers a short description of Grandmetric’s first SD-WAN implementation based on the CISCO solution in Poland. The full case study is provided as a separate article which also got great attention this year.
    5. Wi-Fi Generations – new naming convention for Wi-Fi
      Wi-Fi Alliance noted the need for an easier way to denote and version Wi-Fi standards. Therefore, in this regard, a new naming convention: Wi-Fi Generations has been introduced and is presented in this blog post.

    Marcin Dryjanski, Ph.D.

    Marcin Dryjanski received his Ph.D. in telecommunications from the Poznan University of Technology in September 2019. During the past 15 years, Marcin has served as R&D Engineer, Lead Researcher, R&D Consultant, Technical Trainer, Technical Leader and Board Member. He has been providing expert-level courses in the area of 5G/LTE/LTE-Advanced for leading mobile operators and vendors. In addition to that, Marcin was a work-package leader in EU-funded research projects aiming at radio interface design for 5G including FP-7 5GNOW and FP-7 SOLDER. He co-authored a number of research papers targeting 5G radio interface design and a book "From LTE to LTE-Advanced Pro and 5G" published by Artech House. Marcin is co-founder of Grandmetric and co-founder and CEO at Rimedo Labs, currently focusing on Open RAN systems.
