ExtremeCloud IQ – when to consider cloud management?

    Date: 16.12.2024

Managing network infrastructure in changing environments requires modern tools that provide not only ease of use but also security and performance. ExtremeCloud IQ, an advanced third-generation cloud platform from Extreme Networks, offers network administrators comprehensive solutions that enable central management of both wired and wireless networks. With integrated features such as AirDefense and CoPilot, the platform stands out from the competition with its versatility and ability to automate and predict problems.

Let’s start from the beginning. What is ExtremeCloud IQ?

It is a cloud-based network management platform that enables full integration of both wired and wireless networks. This allows administrators to manage the entire infrastructure from a single interface, regardless of whether it is the configuration of access points, switches or user monitoring. The system is based on microservices, which provide flexibility, scalability and the ability to quickly implement new features.

For companies operating in the European Union, ExtremeCloud IQ’s regional and global data centers must be located in Frankfurt, which guarantees compliance with GDPR requirements. All data is safe thanks to the use of encrypted protocols and multi-layered protection, including a firewall and load balancers managed by market leaders such as Palo Alto and Check Point.

    Extreme Networks Portfolio overview

With support for deployments in public clouds (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud), and private and hybrid clouds, ExtremeCloud IQ adapts to the specific needs of the organization. Features such as automatic device discovery, dynamic segmentation and IoT management make this system an ideal choice for environments requiring high flexibility.

When is it worth using ExtremeCloud IQ?

This solution works in various scenarios, from office networks to more complex environments such as warehouses or industrial facilities. ExtremeCloud IQ is especially useful when:

    • You want to simplify network management. Thanks to central management and an intuitive interface, you can configure the entire infrastructure, regardless of its size, from one place. ExtremeCloud IQ allows administrators to monitor all devices in real time, analyze their status, and configure parameters. You can see both wired and wireless network parameters in a single interface, eliminating the need to use different tools.
    • You need flexibility. The cloud architecture allows the system to scale as the organization grows, allowing you to seamlessly add new devices and locations. Adding a new device is intuitive – just enter the serial number into the system, and the device will automatically download the previously prepared configuration. Regardless of where it is located, it immediately starts working as intended.
    • You care about security. The ExtremeCloud IQ architecture meets the highest security standards, as confirmed by certificates such as ISO 27001, 27017, 27701 and SOC2. Every communication between devices and the cloud is secured with HTTPS protocols and encryption, which minimizes the risk of unauthorized access. In addition, the solution provides advanced protection mechanisms, such as
      • Private PSK (unique keys for each device or user group, eliminating the need to change the password throughout the network).
      • Anomaly and threat detection system – monitoring the network for over 300 different attack vectors.
      • Cloud-based access control – the ability to abandon VPNs in favor of cloud-based authentication.
    • You need a proactive approach. ExtremeCloud IQ has built-in mechanisms based on artificial intelligence (AI). Thanks to this, it can predict problems, identify potential threats and optimize network operation. For example, the system can detect decreasing performance on one of the access points and suggest to the administrator to take specific actions before it affects users.
    • You manage a distributed infrastructure. Companies with multiple locations can easily monitor and manage all network resources from the cloud. In addition, thanks to segmentation and access control features, ExtremeCloud IQ allows for secure management of IoT devices, which are often the weakest link in the IT infrastructure.

AirDefense: Network protection at the highest level

One of the key components of ExtremeCloud IQ is AirDefense, an advanced tool for monitoring and protecting the wireless network. AirDefense acts as a WIPS (Wireless Intrusion Prevention System), detecting and preventing threats such as unauthorized access points, signal jamming attempts, and man-in-the-middle attacks. Thanks to continuous real-time network monitoring and advanced analytical algorithms, the system allows for quick action in response to incidents.

AirDefense is particularly useful in environments with high-security requirements, such as financial institutions, hospitals or government facilities. The automatic incident reporting function helps administrators quickly identify potential weak points in the infrastructure and then effectively eliminate them. This solution, developed for over 15 years, offers not only network protection but also compliance with regulations such as GDPR and NIS2.

    CoPilot: Automation and predictive analysis

The second distinctive element of ExtremeCloud IQ is CoPilot – a tool for proactive network management that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). CoPilot monitors the network in real-time, identifies anomalies and provides administrators with precise recommendations that can be implemented immediately. Thanks to this tool, administrators gain time by eliminating the need for manual diagnosis of problems.

CoPilot also stands out with its Digital Twin function, which allows you to test configuration changes in a simulation environment before they are implemented in the production environment. This minimizes the risk of downtime and unforeseen problems, which is crucial in large corporate networks and public institutions.

    Practical application

ExtremeCloud IQ works well in a variety of environments – from corporate offices, through warehouses, to stadiums and hotels. With support for three implementation models (public, private and hybrid cloud) and advanced features such as network segmentation and IoT management, the platform meets the needs of organizations of all sizes.

In practice, tools such as AirDefense and CoPilot are already helping companies optimize network performance and increase security. For example, in the Dino Polska retail chain, ExtremeCloud IQ enabled the automation of device configuration, significantly shortening the time of implementation in new locations. In environments with high risk of disruptions, such as warehouses, features like disruption detection and predictive channel management help ensure stable connections even under heavy load.

If you’re looking to streamline network management across your organization, ExtremeCloud IQ is the choice to keep you ahead of the curve in your changing IT landscape.
